Mckenna is a Masters student studying Microbiology at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). Her thesis research uses synthetic biology to metabolically engineer cyanobacteria to manufacture certain therapeutic molecules.
She was a member of the 2017 UCSC international Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) team and served as the 2018 UCSC iGEM team advisor. She has been involved in synthetic biology research for the past few years and has participated in the formulation, development , design, and implementation of multiple impactful synthetic biology projects.
She hopes the experience she’s gained through her research can help others learn how to conduct their own impactful synthetic biology projects.
Pratibha is a researcher at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She captained the University of California, Santa Cruz’s International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) team that worked to engineer cyanobacteria to produce essential medicines and supplements for implementation in locations around the world that struggle with reliable access to such resources.
Although her primary research involves using computational approaches within the fields of RNA biology and Immunology, she has taken part in research, design, project development and implementation of synthetic biology projects.
In addition, she enjoys mentoring students and has mentored students of various STEM fields in the past three years. She is a synthetic biology enthusiast who looks forward to sharing her knowledge of synthetic biology and experience with those new to the field.
Mimoun is a Computational Biologist at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, where he develops computational pipelines and machine learning algorithms for the creation of rare cancer cell models.
He has a strong background in Computational Biology, Machine Learning, and Robotics. He is passionate about building better tools for scientific research, tinkering and experimentation. When he's not working you can find him at the DIY Biology Space Boslab in Somerville, MA.
